Surgical Candidate Criteria
Rabies Vaccine Requirement
-
All animals over 12 weeks old are required by law to be up to date on the one-year rabies vaccine.
Options for compliance:
-
Add the 1-year Rabies Vaccine Service to the Surgery Appointment ($25), or
-
Upload a picture of a current rabies vaccine certificate when booking the appointment, or
-
Text a picture of the certificate to 219-240-6228 (M-F 9am-3 pm).
Preexisting Conditions and Behavior Disclosure
-
It is the owner's responsibility to disclose any preexisting conditions their animal has before booking the appointment.
-
Owners must disclose if their pet has been bitten or has bitten another animal or person within the 10 days leading up to surgery. In such cases, the surgery must be rescheduled.
Airborne Pathogens Disclaimer
-
While measures are taken to minimize exposure to airborne pathogens, animals may still be exposed to airborne diseases.
-
The responsibility for any care or treatment for non-vaccinated animals experiencing symptoms not related to the surgical procedure falls on the consenting owner.
Additional Recommendations
-
We recommend adding services and vaccinating your animals at the time of surgery. Available services include annual vaccines, heartworm testing, deworming, microchipping, nail trim, ear cleaning, and monthly flea and tick prevention.

-
$15 Plastic E-Collar (Cone of Shame) to prevent licking the surgical site.

Breed Restrictions

-
We do not perform surgeries on Doberman Pinschers due to their genetic bleeding disorder. Owners are encouraged to book at a full-service veterinary hospital.
Boxer:

Boxers can be genetically predisposed to a heart condition that affects our anesthetic protocol. While we are able to change the protocol, seeing as they are more prone to complications, we recommend booking at a full service hospital as they are best equipped to monitor these patients in an emergency.

-
We are no longer booking surgeries for brachycephalic breeds (Persian and other short-nosed breeds). We recommend booking at a full-service veterinary hospital due to their specialized needs.
Maine Coon Cats:
-
Maine Coon cats can be genetically predisposed to certain heart conditions that may influence how they respond to anesthesia. While we carefully monitor every patient and adjust protocols as appropriate, we recommend discussing any known cardiac history with our team prior to scheduling. In some cases, a full-service veterinary hospital may be better equipped for advanced cardiac monitoring if concerns are present.
